When the Bishop of Gloucester visited us on
March 7, he was taken to see a part of the
plant which comparatively few people are
authorised to penetrate—the new Data
Centre in Building 50.
Escorted by Derek Portman, Director,
Manufacturing Group, and Information
Officer Jimmy Bake, he also toured the
Machine Shop, Supply Centre, Electrical
Sub-assemblies, Apprentice Training
School and 4000 Assembly.
It was in the latter department that our
picture was taken. Roger Brookes,
chargehand, main line mechanical run,
explained the workings of the 4000
machine to the Bishop, while Geoff Beard,
QC inspector (seen above) gave him a
demonstration of the standard of work
obtainable.
The Rector of Mitcheldean joined the party
for lunch in the directors’ dining room.

After only tfiree years with Rank Xerox Singapore/Malaysia
(Kuala Lumpur branch), looking after 3600, 7000 and 720
machines, Gan Ah Lec won his company’s annual service
engineer performance competition. On the way back from
enjoying his prize — a week in Barbados — he and his wife
Alice visited Mitcheldean on February 5. They were looked after
by John Barratt (far left) and Ken Everett (second from right),
respectively Manager (Technical Residents) and Senior
Resident, Field Support Department. With them in this picture

You can’t go wrong with a disco, it seems.
At the party on February 76 organised by
the Sports & Social Club for employees’
children in the eight to ten year group, a
disco with ‘Mr Bumble’ got them all

in colour starring Hayley Mills, and a tea,
also went down very well. About 470
turned up at the Social Centre, and each
child had a nice present to take home.

before Christmas. We hear that during the
evening a ‘Craftsman of the Year’ award
was presented to John Wedley; recently
instituted by his colleagues for Small Batch
only, it is unlikely to become an annual
affair. We think another award should
have gone to Gordon Howells — for taking
the official pictures and yet managing to
get right in the centre of this one I
